Sliding barn door on a steel track
A timber barn door hung on a steel top track with cast hangers, both trades on one job, which is usually two contractors and two call-outs.
A sliding door is a good job for one contractor, because it is two jobs that have to agree with each other.
The track is mild steel flat bar, drilled and fixed off the wall so it carries the door’s weight back into the structure rather than into the plaster. It has to be dead level, a barn door that creeps open on its own is level by a few millimetres over two metres.
The door itself is a framed-and-panelled hardwood build, hung on cast hangers and stained in stages so the colour matched the other joinery in the room.
